Walt Disney World opened on October 1, 1971, even though its dedication ceremony wasn’t held till October 25, 1971. With Mickey Mouse by his side, Roy Disney read the dedication plaque. The dedication parade had over 5,000 performers , and featured Mickey Mouse on the worlds biggest base drum. The high point of the parade was when a 1000 plus piece marching band, preformed. 

“May Walt Disney World bring joy and inspiration and new knowledge to all who come to this happy place … a Magic Kingdom where the young at heart of all ages can laugh and play and learn together.”
